Where Will You See Skin Cancer Symptoms?
There are more than 3.5 million different types of skin cancers. When you are looking for signs of cancer, you should look at areas that are most exposed to the sun first. The most common areas for cancer to appear are on the neck, face, lips, ears, scalp, arms, hands, and legs.
Rare forms of skin cancer can form almost anywhere on your body. Make sure you are looking for signs of cancer everywhere after you have checked common areas.
There are some forms that are more common than others. Basal cell carcinoma, for example, often forms in sun-exposed areas of the body. It will look like a flat lesions that is the same color as your flesh. It may also appear to be a waxy bump on the skin.
Squamous cell carcinoma will form in similar areas, however, the lesions will have a scaly or crusted surface. If you notice brown spots on your body with freckles or a mole that changes in size or color, it could be a sign of melanoma.
Lesions with red, white and blue borders are also often classified as melanoma.
Talk to Your Doctor if You Notice Skin Cancer Symptoms
If you notice any changes in your skin, you should consult a doctor immediately for a biopsy. If caught early, skin cancer is treatable.
The doctor will examine your lesions or moles, extra a portion of the skin for a biopsy, and advise you of your options if it is found that you do have skin cancer.
